By FAR the Best Version
This version scared the heck out of me when I was a kid. I think this is MUCH better than the remakes.
I just wish that, with todays technology, a remake of THIS version, would be just as scary as the original. The one with the dogs and 'body snatchers' theme was just blah, the scripts, the acting, the suspense, everything.
Need a technological remake of the original.......

I prefer this original to that of John Carpenter.

Scared To Death
Next to the movie THEM, this one scared me from the very beginning, especially the scene when they opened the door to the plant nursery and there it is, tall, screaming that awful scream/roar!! I jumped so far!! Great movie that I have passed on to my children and grandchildren - just fantastic!

Human Perspectives
Although John Carpenter's remake, The Thing, with its focus on horror is closer to the original story by John W. Campbell on which both films were based, its tone is very different from this nuanced, beautifully filmed 1951 hard science fiction film which explores ethics and implications and prefigures some ideas arising later in the environmental movement. Directed by Christian Nyby.

The Thing
I saw this movie when it came out in theaters. I was 6 yrs old and it scared the bejeebus out of me. Didn't sleep that night because I thought it was in my closet, waiting to get me, lol. It's still one of my favorites, and one of the best sci fi movies of all.

Kenneth Tobey at his best.
This is one fine scifi movie. Until hologram made entertainment replaces film entertainment (just as talkies finished silent films) this movie will keep it's ability to enthrall those that choose to watch it. But then there will be third (3d) or more remakes of the story.

Still scares me today
This film scared me so much that i had nightmares as a child, and it still gives me the creeps to this day. I think it's the isolation, no one can help and this Thing wants to kill and eat you.
ps....The original movies are always the best in my terrified mind!
THANK YOU for making this film available.
